Requesting a CUIT Certificate


CUIT has an agreement with the InCommon Certificate Service to provide certificates at a flat rate, which CUIT is covering. There is no cost to you for each certificate.

To request a certificate, please complete this form. Required fields are in bold.

Contact Information


The email address entered below will receive the signed certificate and will also receive renewal notices when the certificate nears expiration. It is the sole responsibility of the contact to respond to the renewal notices and take appropriate actions.

Only Columbia University-based Group Email is accepted

Certificate Signing Request (CSR)

InCommon will only accept CSRs with keys of 2048-bits or greater in length.

CUIT cannot provide assistance with CSR generation. Comodo, however, has instructions for generating CSRs for use with various platforms and software.

We recommend the following values:

  • C (this field may also be called 'Country'): US
  • ST (this field may also be called 'State or Province'): New York
  • L (this field may also be called 'Location' or 'City'): New York
  • O (this field may also be called 'Organization'): Columbia University
  • OU (This field may also be called 'Organization Unit' or 'Department'): Information Technology
  • CN (this field may also be called 'Common Name' or 'Hostname'): the fully qualified domain name of your server as it appears in a url.

When your request has been approved, you will receive an email from InCommon with links to download the certificate, any intermediate certificates, and root certificates.

Be aware that you may need to install the InCommon Intermediate CA certificate in addition to the certificate you are requesting.

Installing The Signed Certificate


CUIT cannot provide assistance with certificate installation. Comodo, however, has instructions for installing certificates on various platforms.
